A little bit about me
And the guitar
I have been playing guitar since I was sixteen. Once I heard Hank Marvin playing Apache I was hooked! Other later influences include Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Chet Atkins, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, James Taylor and many more. I have played in a number of small local bands since then and have had a lot of fun!
I play a variety of styles from folk finger-style to heavy rock. Whatever your style is I am sure I will be able to help you develop your skills and knowledge. And if you are unsure of what is best for you, I will be able to help you decide which road to take. The foundation skills and knowledge for all styles of guitar playing remain much the same. I use a variety of sources for my teaching including RGT materials and some Rockschool books too, but I am just as happy for you to bring your favourite songs along.
My studio is fully equipped with amps of various sorts, effects, music stands, internet and so on so you just need to bring your guitar. I have lived here with my family and dog for the last ten years. Recently I have started playing ukulele and a little classical guitar too.
So, if you would like to improve your guitar skills, why not let me help you. Whether you want to become a better player just for fun, or if you would like to study to take a grade exam, I am sure I can point you in the right direction. Having been a primary school teacher for over 30 years I am able apply these skills effectively to my guitar teaching. I have a Grade 8 in acoustic guitar, Grade 5 electric guitar and I am working to improve my skills. I am also now able to offer ukelele up to grade 3, bass guitar and classical guitar too.
